Thousands of people are expected to flock to one of Sydney's leading sustainability events, Randwick's Ecoliving Fair, on Sunday 18 September at the Randwick Community Centre.
The 2011 Ecoliving Fair, held from 10:30am - 3pm right near the Randwick Environment Park, is the perfect opportunity for people who would like to make their home and garden more sustainable and environmentally-friendly but are unsure how.
Randwick Mayor Murray Matson said there will be a variety of sustainability stalls and workshops available throughout the day, and a number of experts on hand for people to pick their brains on topics such as organic food, composting and green cleaning.
"Free yoga and zumba classes plus live entertainment from soul/indie band Soulganic and roving entertainers are sure to add some spice to the day," said Cr Matson.
"To encourage sustainable transport options, the fair will also have a special section for bikes and their riders where they can get a free bike check up, take part in a bike workshop, ride around the bike obstacle course and even watch a bike polo demonstration."
Other highlights of the 2011 Ecoliving Fair, include:
- interactive solar powered Wii games
- a wildlife show
- children's art and crafts
- the organic food tent
- the Festival of the Bike
- a celebrity cooking demonstration
- demonstrations on compost, worm farming and how to create a food/balcony garden.
Mayor Matson said this event reflects the positive attitude of many local Randwick residents towards the environment - it's time now to get the whole community on board.
"Sustainability has gone from a catch phrase to a way of life for many Sydney residents. This fair is about giving people ideas and tips to use in your day-to-day life.
The free annual event is held at Randwick Community Centre, 27 Munda Street Randwick (off Hendy Avenue behind the Army barracks on Avoca Street). Just look for the small wind turbine!
A free, return shuttle bus will operate between the Fair and Bowen Library in Maroubra between 9:30am to 2pm.
